Teenagers connect to find a common goal

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Saturday ended the 24-hour Chittenden County Above the Influence Retreat. It took place at the Marriott Courtyard in Burlington.

40 teens from 6 different high schools attended the event, discussing ways to prevent substance use among teens and promoting healthy lifestyles. Organizers say "Above the Influence", which is a national campaign, is the best way to hear teens' opinions on helping communities fight the temptations of drugs and alcohol.

Tian Berry a student at Burlington High School commented Saturday why she thought it was important to connect with her peers, "To see that they are in the same boat as me, they want to be healthy and live a good life."

Retreat Organizer, Mariah Sanderson explains, "This is just a chance for them to connect with other teens that are making those same healthy choices and show that kids in Chittenden County are living above the influence of drugs and alcohol."

Organizers hope to do this retreat annually.
