BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - A 29-year-old Vermont man faces a possible life sentence after a jury found him guilty of repeated sexual assaults on a young girl.
Jurors deliberated seven hours in Brattleboro criminal court Friday before finding David Edson, formerly of Northfield, guilty of 2 counts of aggravated sexual assault.
The victim was 10 years old at the time of the assaults and reported them to police two years ago, when she was 12. She now lives in Utah with her father.
She testified that the assaults took place in the summer of 2009 in Westminster.
Deputy State Attorney David Gartenstein told the Rutland Herald that Edson also faces sentencing in an unrelated case in which he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in a near-fatal stabbing in Northfield in 2011.
