The final high school basketball games of the season were played at Windsor High School Saturday. The Vermont Basketball Coaches Association held its 13th annual Senior All-Star Classic.
The first game of the day featured the Division 3 and 4 girls. The North beat the South, 89-57. Ashley Whitney of Hazen led four North players in double figures with 14 points. Twinfield's Meg John and Concord's Casey DeGreenia had 11 while Chelsea's Nicole Pierpont had 10. Proctor's Carissa Elrich led the South with 11 points and Leland & Gray's Ashley Goddard added 8.
In the second game of the day, the North boys Divisions 3 and 4 beat the South, 93-80. Blue Mountain's Damian Smith led all scorers with 16 points. His North teammates, Brandon Gibbs of Twinfield, and Williamstown's Kyle Laughlin each had 12 while Oxbow's Andrew Lyman added 11. Windsor's Tanner Tibbets led the South with 9 points. Proctor's Ryan Petrini added 8.
In the Division 1 and 2 Girls game, Colchester's Sarah Paskevich and Rice's Cassidy Derda scored 11 to lead the North team to a 72-59 win over the South. Milton's Nicole Menard added 8 points for the North. Montpelier's Annie Jones led the South with 16 points while Stephanie Grobe of Hartford chipped in 15.
In the final game of the night, the Division 1 and 2 South Boys beat the North, 87-84. Mill River's Jay Carleton had a team-high 13 points for the South. Mount Anthony's Aaryngston Bibens had 12 and David Shehadi added 11. Lamoille's Derek Vanat led the North with 11 points. Rice's Casey Tipson had 9 and Lake Region teammates Caleb Prue and Drew Gallup each scored 8.
Missisquoi's Matt St. Amour and Hartford's Stephanie Grobe were named players of the year by the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association.
Windsor assistant Don Swinyer won the Tommy Finnell Outstanding Service award, Danville's Brady Rainville was awarded the Tristan Southworth scholarship and Brent Curtis of WDEV won the media award.
Former St. Johnsbury Academy girls basketball coach and longtime educator, Dan Thurston, was inducted into the VBCA hall of fame.
