Milton gas leak prompts evacuation

MILTON, Vt. -

Crews responding to a gas leak evacuated part of an industrial park in Milton.

The leak from a trailer at the NG Advantage compressed natural gas company was discovered around lunchtime. The company believes too much pressure on the trailer led its safety system to release 350,000 cubic feet of gas into the atmosphere.

Employees from the site and a neighboring business were cleared from the scene while first responders assessed the problem.

"It is flammable gas and it is dangerous but having the protocols in place and having those protocols work is extremely important especially to me as the vice president of safety," said the company'sGerry Myers.

NG Advantage said it had worked with first responders to familiarize them with the site prior to Monday's incident.  The company is working with state officials to investigate the problem. The scene was clear about an hour after the leak was discovered.
