WALLINGFORD, Vt. -

A pregnant woman arriving at work at a convenience store found herself with a knife at her throat.

Vermont State Police say it happened just before 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Smart Shop store on Main Street in Wallingford.

The female employee was walking into the store when a masked man approached her with a knife and brought her inside. The woman was forced into a bathroom while the robber stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. Police say he then stole her car, which was found abandoned in North Clarendon later in the morning.

"We can't really... It was a male according to the employee, we don't know the race of the suspect, he was wearing dark clothes-- a black sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves and a black ski mask," Vt. State Police Det. Kevin Lane said.

The female employee was not injured during the robbery.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Wallingford area from 5 -7 a.m. is asked to contact Vt. State Police at 802-773-9101. Click here to submit an anonymous tip online.
