St. Michael's College students autograph architecture

Posted: Updated:

A new and unique writing project at St. Michael's College in Colchester: Students, faculty and staff autographed a large metal beam in the old student center Tuesday. It will be included in the construction of the new student center-residence hall.

The $30 million Quad Commons project renovates two dorms and adds a new student activities area. Alliot Hall-- the old student center-- will continue to be used for other programs.

"The student center which we signed the beam for today is really going to be the epicenter of our campus. A student-only space, academics will happen, but it's a space that is going to be very open... good food, good study, good media, workout room, just a place our students can go and just be with one another and call it their space," said Dawn Ellinwood, the dean of students at St. Michael's College.

The 40,000-square-foot Quad Commons should be done in time for the fall semester.
