NH lawmakers to cut state university aid

CONCORD, N.H. -

Lawmakers writing this year's budget in New Hampshire say they're going to have to cut aid to the state's universities because Governor Maggie Hassan's budget plan counted on $80 million from licensing a new casino that doesn't exist.

The House Finance Committee recommends giving New Hampshire's university system 20 percent less than it says it needs, in exchange for a promise to freeze in-state tuition.

The spending plan also says there should be a moratorium on any new charter schools and school building projects.
