Chittenden County has been ranked the healthiest county in the U.S. Other parts of the state were not as fit.
Essex ranked the least healthy in Vermont. The annual county rankings look at several factors, including life expectancy, smoking and alcohol abuse.
The state says to improve ratings communities should be more walkable and employees should have access to healthy foods and exercise in the workplace.
"One of the things we know about Chittenden County is, on average, we have high levels of income and education and those are strong factors of health and that's why we think it ranks so highly," said Heather Danis of the Vermont Department of Health.
