At the Pleasant View Greenhouses in Louden, N.H., they set up 40 to 50 different hanging baskets and then asked visitors to vote on the best ones. And these are the finalists.
This one came in the tops by all of the judges in the professional industry. I like the sort of fluffy stuff. The fluffy stuff is called Euphorbia. And I like this one because I like the mix of the textures, even though the colors are very similar.
When you are putting together hanging baskets there are different examples of ways to design them. You can have contrasting colors, complementary colors, or different kinds of shades of the same color. There are some with all one plant. This one looks like a giant snowball. It's pure white and called Lobularia "Snow Princess." It really depends on the effect you want.
If you want a hanging basket with pastel colors, they are really best looked at up close. Put all of those together and hang them near a doorway where people can really examine them. If they are going to look at the basket from a distance, you want some of the brighter colored flowers, so they really stand out and pop in the landscape. Sort of a nice ta-da effect!
And then you can set up a number of them and have your own trials next year and see who wins from your selections!
