Exhibit focuses on influential women in Vermont

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Influential women are filling the halls at Burlington College. This week the school opened the Vermont Works for Women "Labor of Love" exhibit. The traveling collection of photographs features 29 women from across Vermont who are leaders in their professions. The diverse group includes farmers, doctors, tattoo artists and others. It is designed in part to inspire young people about future opportunities.

"We really want them to connect with these women and also be able to learn a little bit about where these women come from and how they sort of grew into these positions that they love and care about so greatly," said Emily Schmidt of Burlington College.

Each photo is accompanied by an audio interview with the woman featured. They were collected by a group of middle and high school girls.

The artist, Mary Claire Carroll, is the wife of WCAX News Chief Photographer Jim Oliver.
