One of the great stewards of the Long Trail has died.
Bob Northrop of Underhill was an avid hiker and supporter of the Green Mountain Club. He first hiked the Long Trail end to end back in 1937 when he was 16 years old. He completed the 273 mile hike from one end of Vermont to the other several more time during his life.
Northrop was also known for his years of public service -- as President of Vermont Electric Co-operative and a school board member in the Chittenden East school district. Northrop died Saturday at the age of 92.
