ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - Business owners, residents and former city officials in St. Albans, Vt., are supporting redevelopment efforts following a couple of recent challenges.
More than 70 of them attended a public meeting at City Hall on Monday.
There have been some obstacles in plans for a new retail store and the construction of a parking garage. A real estate firm has appealed a city permit granted to Ace Hardware for a new building on the corner of Congress and Main streets. Discussions with a land owner have produced some uncertainty over the parking garage plans.
The St. Albans Messenger reports former city mayor Peter Deslauriers said that with its tax increment financing district, the city can raise money to control its own future and help people invest in the community.
