HYDE PARK, Vt. (AP) - Vermont authorities have caught up with a man they say stole a pickup truck, left it near a swamp after a pursuit, and got a change of clothes from someone else after saying he fell through the ice.
Police charged 21-year-old Michael Jenkins of Barre with burglary, aggravated operating without the owner's consent and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police said on Thursday night, the Lamoille County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of someone taking the pickup from a Hyde Park home. The homeowner followed, forcing the man off the road and into a field. The man drove toward a swamp, then ran into the woods.
The resident who gave him new clothes also gave him a ride to a market in Eden Mills, where he was arrested.
