The University of Vermont men's and women's basketball teams hosted a shootaround on Friday at Patrick Gymnasium as part of the UPS Store Rally for Warmth Drive, sponsored by The UPS Store in Essex.
Fans were encouraged to donate new or handmade hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, jackets or other warm items at the shootaround. Fans that made a donation during the season at any home game were invited to attend the shootaround as well.
During the shootaround, the men's and women's basketball players ran stations for the kids. At the conclusion of the event, kids asked players questions and received autographs.
This event culminated this year's UPS Store Rally for Warmth Drive, as items were collected and donated throughout the season. In late December the men's hockey team hosted a Skate with the Cats event where fans donated several hundred items to the drive.
The UPS Store Rally for Warmth Drive is part of the UPS Store and WCAX Chanel 3 Mitten Tree Drive. This year marks the eight annual Mitten Tree Drive with this season's goal of collecting 35,000 items to about 75 different schools and organizations in need.
