Hartford cancels taser purchase

HARTFORD, Vt. -

Amid statewide controversy over the use of tasers, one Vermont police department has decide not to use them.

The Hartford Police Department had been planning to purchase the stun guns, joining state police and numerous other departments in deploying the non-lethal weapons. But after the taser death of a Thetford man, there has been much discussion of taser policies at the state level. Given that uncertainty and the Hartford department's own recent controversies over use of force, town officials have decided to cancel the purchase.
