Vt. trust seeks to preserve Proctor Marble Museum

Posted: Updated:

PROCTOR, Vt. (AP) - The Preservation Trust of Vermont is raising money to buy Vermont Marble Museum in Proctor.

The trust has already raised the money needed to buy some of the museum's artifacts.

But the trust's Paul Bruhn says the stone library and small samples of marble from all over the world will be leaving Vermont because the University of Pennsylvania has acquired the museum's archives, which include stone samples and paper records from the Vermont Marble Company.

Vermont Public Radio is reporting that stone from the Vermont Marble Company is found in the Jefferson Memorial, the U.S. Supreme Court building and at the White House. Bruhn says that's what caught the attention of the University of Pennsylvania.

The trust has raised $120,000. They hope to raise $480,000 to acquire the building.
