Route 2 construction begins again in Danville

DANVILLE, Vt. -

The Route 2 project is back up and running in Danville.

Work began Monday and is expected to wrap up by the Fourth of July. The first two years of construction were marred by long traffic delays and then overnight noise.

VTrans officials confirmed the work this spring and summer will go from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays, with two-way traffic allowed through the village on Route 2 most of the time. There will be temporary road closures on Peacham Road and at the Route 2 ends of Park and Smith roads.

"We're tapering down now. The work going on there is mostly on the side of the road right now. But because there are people and machinery going in and out we want to make sure that people understand that there's potential for some delay -- but not like it was before," says Brent Curtis with the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

Another project that Curtis says could cause delays this summer is paving on Interstate 89 between Waterbury and Richmond. Both lanes on both sides of the interstate will be redone, and Curtis says commuters should consider using an alternate route during busy drive times.

Other projects Curtis says drivers can be aware of this construction season are the Milton bridge project -- where they will be turning two bridges into one -- and the installation of a roundabout in Cambridge at Rts. 15 and 108. There will be a bridge project there as well.
