A happy ending Wednesday morning in Essex after an overnight search for a missing elderly man.
Mathias Fordor, 82, was last seen at the end of Brigham Hill Lane at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday heading into the woods. When he didn't come home, a searched was launched.
A helicopter was brought in Wednesday morning and Fordor was spotted from the air in a swampy area near the Indian Brook Reservoir.
"He was actually submerged partially into a swampy area in the cold water. There was a lot of ice around it and he just had made it out of a very dense, wooded area. And he was in some ice and hunched over a log," said Cpl. John Dunn of the Essex Police Dept.
Fordor was transported to the hospital. Police say Fordor was strong and alert, but given his location in the swamp they say it was lucky they found him when they did.
