BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she embezzled $400,000 from an auto dealership where she worked as an office manager.
The Burlington Free Press reports Manon Cote of Newport was responsible for handling the dealership's ledger and making bank deposits. She's accused of taking cash receipts and writing out company checks to unauthorized payees to cover up the thefts.
The 45-year-old Cote also is accused of writing checks to herself to pay personal loans, using a company credit card for personal reasons and buying a laptop computer with company funds.
She worked at DeLaBruere's Auto Sales Inc. from 2007 to 2012.
Cote was charged with two fraud counts and one count of uttering a forged instrument.
