Rutland police ID driver in deadly hit-and-run

RUTLAND, Vt. -

Police in Rutland say they have identified the driver in a fatal hit-and-run as a former city attorney.

Just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, police say Mary Jane Outslay, 71, of Mendon, was hit by a vehicle as she walked across Strongs Avenue. Outslay was taken to the hospital in Rutland where she died from her injuries.

Police have now identified the driver. Investigators say he is Christopher Sullivan, 53, of Rutland. Sullivan is a former city attorney. They say Sullivan turned over his vehicle to Rutland Police Thursday. He is cooperating with investigators and police say charges are pending.
