Taxes are filed, those refunds are in the mail-- and many people will use that money as a down payment for a new car.
But before you hand over the check, local car specialists are urging you to follow a few simple steps to make sure you make the right purchase.
1. Know how much you are willing to spend, and what kind of car you need.
2. Find the right car that meets those needs.
3. Then take it to a local garage to make sure everything is all right under the hood.
This advice inspired a local auto shop owner Amy Mattinat from Auto Craftsman to write a book. Her book, "How to Buy a Great Used Car," is available for free in repair shops across the country, or you can ask her for a PDF copy by email -- firstname.lastname@example.org
