Bradford under boil water notice

Posted: Updated:
BRADFORD, Vt. -

A boil water notice remains in effect for Bradford.

On Friday afternoon the town's water tested positive for what could be small amounts of E. Coli.  If ingested, the bacteria has the potential to get people severely ill.  The town is asking that everyone on town water, including several downtown restaurants, to boil before drinking.  Because of problems with the town's newly-implemented calling system, officials said they had a difficult time getting the word out.

"Evidently it didn't work the way it was supposed to work. Several people did not get contacted.  Some people got contacted that are not even on the water system but somehow the system called them.  We also had it on the radio but I think it is something that we haven't really addressed," said Robert Mutting with Bradford Water and Sewer Commission.

The water was tested again Monday.  If the tests come back negative, the boil order will be lifted and townspeople will be contacted.  Officials say if you don't hear from the town, you should assume the boil order is still in place.
