Two families are homeless following a fire Monday afternoon in an apartment house in Burlington.
The building at 23 Front Street is across from the police station and straddles North Avenue and Front Street. It has five apartments. Stan Bell lives in the building and said he was on his way home when he saw the fire.
"I just got out of court and I was coming down the street -- Front Street -- and I saw flames shooting out, so I thought it was the house next door, but it was my house," said
"Shortly before 4 p.m., Burlington Fire Department got multiple 911 calls for outside fire on Front Street -- a three-story, wood frame, five-unit apartment building. And in two to three minutes the fire department on the scene reported heavy fire showing on front corner," said Burlington City Fire Marshall Chief Barry Simays.
Officials do not know yet what started the fire. There were no injuries reported.
