Rutland police shut down road for hit-and-run investigation

Posted: Updated:

Still no answers about a fatal hit-and-run in Rutland. Accident reconstruction teams were back on the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Mary Jane Outslay, 71, was crossing Strongs Avenue when she was hit by a car earlier this month. The driver never stopped.

A day later, Christopher Sullivan, 53, contacted police saying he owns the vehicle involved in the crash.

Vermont State Police blocked off the street for several hours Tuesday in order to reconstruct the accident and continue the investigation.

"One camp is that the investigation needs to be followed through in a comprehensive manner, all the i's need to be dotted and the t's need to be crossed, but at the same time there is a sense of frustration in the community that you know, something could of possibly been done by now," Rutland City Mayor Chris Louras said.

WCAX News has reached out to the Vermont attorney general's office for comment on the investigation for more than a week. We've been told that no one is available.
