KEENE, N.Y. (AP) - One of the main routes into the heart of the Adirondacks will be reduced to one lane and fully closed during one weekend next month while crews make repairs to slopes along the road.
The state Department of Transportation is warning motorists that construction begins Wednesday along a stretch of Route 73 in the vicinity of Cascade Lakes between the village of Lake Placid and the neighboring town of Keene.
Starting May 1 and continuing through the next four weeks, traffic will be reduced to one lane in some areas.
During the project, the road may be fully closed for up to 30 minutes at a time for boulder removal. Route 73 is expected to be closed completely on the weekend of May 11-12.
The work is expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend.
