President calls first lady's 'single mom' flub a slip of the tongue

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

It was a remark the first lady made during an exclusive interview with Channel 3's Bridget Barry Caswell that made national headlines. And now the president is responding.

First lady Michelle Obama sat down with Bridget to discuss her "Let's Move" initiative to get kids to eat healthy and exercise. Mrs. Obama invited a group of Milton kids to help her plant the White House garden. But during the interview with Bridget, the first lady had a slip-up, saying, "We have to deal with the question of access. And believe me, as a busy single mother-- or I shouldn't say single-- as a busy mother, sometimes when you've got a husband who is president it can feel a little single. But he's there."

In a taped interview that aired Wednesday morning on the Today show, President Obama said his wife's comment was a slip of the tongue. But he also acknowledged there have been times in his political career when she probably did feel like a single parent.
