The family of a Vermont State Police trooper who was killed in the line of duty has received a $4.5 million settlement from the state and its insurance carrier.
Trooper Michael Johnson was killed ten years ago when he was run over by a fleeing suspect on Interstate 91.
Johnson's family fought a long legal battle for financial compensation, with the Supreme Court ruling in 2009 that they could sue for as much as $11 million.
The out-of-court settlement with the insurance company was reached in December. A judge approved the deal this week.
