A brush fire threatened downtown Hyde Park Monday.
Fire officials say the blaze swept across a grassy area and destroyed a garage. Fire crews raced to stop the flames from spreading to five nearby homes and the county courthouse was evacuated, but the fire never got that far.
"When we got here the wind was blowing and it took the brush fire up over the bank and got into the garage and burned acres behind the garage and caught the garage on fire," said Hyde Park Fire Capt. Ryan Nolan.
Fire officials said the dry spring conditions have raised the danger of brush fires.
