Vermonters play Fenway

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON, Ma. -

The Red Sox have the night off, but there was still a game at Fenway this evening. The University of Massachusetts faced Northeastern in the championship of the Baseball Beanpot at the home of the Sox.

It was a special night at the historic ballpark for a trio of Vermonters, who are all from Essex High School and all play together for Umass, junior Dylan Begin started at first, junior Aaron Plunkett was the starting pitcher and redshirt sophomore Adam Picard roamed the outfield for the Minutemen.

Begin had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Plunkett was cruising thru three but gave up four in the fourth and took the loss in a 6-3 Northeastern victory. Our Scott Fleishman will have more on the former Hornets' night at Fenway tomorrow at 6pm, a disappointing loss but a memorable experience.
