Woman seeks probation release in Vt. stepmom death

Posted: Updated:

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A former Vermont woman who served prison time for her role in the killing of her stepmother in 2000 says she wants to be free from the restrictions of probation.

Tashia Beer pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a case in which she was accused of persuading her foster brother to shoot Vicki Campbell-Beer of Lyndon. She was 14 when the crime happened. She was released from prison in 2006 and placed on indefinite probation.

Beer, now 28, married and living in Las Vegas, asked to be released from her probation.

Caledonia County State's Attorney Lisa Warren is opposing the request. The Caledonian-Record reports Judge Mary Miles Teachout granted Warren's request for a hearing.

Beer said in a statement that she is a changed person who supports two young children.
