PSNH requesting rate reduction in filing

Posted: Updated:

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire's largest electric utility is asking state regulators' permission to cut rates starting in July.

Public Service of New Hampshire is requesting the rate reduction in a filing with the Public Utilities Commission this week.

The company said customers buying energy from Public Service would see an average rate cut of about 4.3 percent. Customers who buy power from another supplier would see rates drop about 2.7 percent.

The company wants to cut its energy service rate to 8.98 cents per kilowatt hour from 9.54 cents and make adjustments in other rates.

The energy rate reduction is due to changes in renewable energy rules. Other savings are due to the expiration of expensive contracts with independent power producers and efficient operation of generators.
