More evidence Friday of the growing danger of runaway brush fires.
The dry, warm spring weather has created tinder box conditions and just a spark can lead to devastating results. That's what happened in Chazy, N.Y. Firefighters believe a grass fire spread to a nearby farm, destroying an unoccupied house-barn combination and two other barns.
"We originally got called for a wild land-type fire. Numerous calls came in, a reported possible structure fire. When we arrived on scene, we had a fully involved structure," Chazy Fire Chief Mike Cahoon said.
Seven departments helped battle the blazed, but all of the structures burned to the ground and about 1 acre of land also burned.
