Competing tax plans are on the table in Montpelier.
Monday night House and Senate leaders are slated to come together at the State House to work toward hammering out a compromise with their tax proposals. The House plan raises $27 million total in new revenue over this year's policy -- that total is closer to $10 million in the Senate.
Governor Peter Shumlin (D-Vt)has not been a fan of either plan.
"We spent Friday sort of getting to know each other's proposals. I think we'll dig a little deeper into some of the areas of difference. I don't think we are going to settle on a package until we have a clearer idea of how much revenue we are needing to raise if any," said Rep. Janet Ancel (D-Calais).
The idea of adding an excise tax for satellite TV users is on the table. House members scrapped it from their plan but it still remains part of the Senate's proposal.
