The string of dry weather continues to exacerbate the threat of wildfires around our region -- including one on Prospect Mountain in Woodford and another in St. Johnsbury.
There was also this one in Colchester that closed part of Route seven near Poor Farm Road Monday afternoon. It stretched about 1.5 acres on the top of a hill. Crews were able to use a VAST snowmobile trail to reach the top, which helped them quickly get the fire under control. Officials say the weather right now makes it easy for brush fires to spread.
"We had another brush fire this morning. We had one last night and we had a couple here in Colchester last week, as well," said Colchester Center Fire Capt. Jeff Leete. "Rain would be extremely helpful right now. It's very, very dry. The conditions are ideal for brush fires of this nature."
The cause of this fire is still under investigation. The closed section of Route 7 re-opened at about 3 p.m.
