JERICHO, Vt. -

Smoke is rising from the Ethan Allen Firing Range, but the National Guard says not to worry.

A number of units from Vermont and neighboring states spent the weekend at the range executing shooting training. Those drills, paired with the dry spell we've been experiencing, sparked some small brush fires. But a guard spokesman tells WCAX News that workers at the range are closely monitoring the burns and are even seizing the opportunity to use a helicopter to drop water on those burns-- another necessary training for members of the guard.

We're also receiving reports of smoke billowing from the range, but officials say that is a controlled burn in the woods used to maintain the forest.
