ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - Quick action by two St. Johnsbury police officers is being credited with helping avert disaster when they discovered an early morning apartment house fire in the Vermont community.
Officials say the fire was discovered in the Spring Street apartment at about 2 a.m. Sunday by Officer Lester Cleary and Sgt. Eric Hazard who were on patrol.
When they spotted the fire they went into the building and woke the tenants.
Firefighters who arrived within two minutes determined there was no one in the third floor apartment that was burning.
The Caledonian Record reports the fire was quickly brought under control, the house was saved and no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
