The Vermont Agency of Transportation is starting work on Interstate 91 to replace a bridge that's more than 50 years old. The bridge spans Route 44 in Windsor.
Traffic on the interstate is down to one lane each side. And starting next week, parts of Route 44 will be completely closed for several days. There will be separate detours for cars and trucks.
Brent Curtis of VTrans says it may be a temporary inconvenience for drivers, but it's actually a good thing for the local economy.
"This will put 50 people to work -- craftsmen in that area working on this project -- so that's an excellent scenario," he says.
The project will wrap up in November. Drivers can check out the VTrans website at 511VT.com for specific detour details.
They also have a Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/build91windsor and a toll-free hotline at 1-800-815-1574 that people can visit for updates.
