Green Mountain College is divesting its $3 million endowment from fossil fuels.
The Poultney school is the fifth college in the nation and the second in Vermont to commit to divestment as part of a nationwide campaign.
GMC trustees voted last week to immediately divest from fossil fuels and establish a process for aligning future investments with social, environmental and governance goals. The 200 fossil fuel companies involved represent 1 percent of the college's endowment.
There are also divestment campaigns at Goddard, St. Michael's, Johnson State, Middlebury and UVM.
