First responders are dealing with a big mess in Vergennes.
It's not clear why, but a tractor-trailer went off Route 22A and smashed into a sewage pump station.
Responders worked to contain two spills-- fuel from the truck and sewage from the pump station.
Power was cut to the pump station for safety reasons. Crews don't know when it will be turned back on.
"Totally destroyed, there's two pumps in there that send the sewage down to the sewage department. Both those pumps are destroyed, control panel destroyed, has to be completely repaired," Vergennes Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Fraley said.
In the meantime, the pump station is being drained every hour.
