Senator Sanders tours with a special guest

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Senator Bernie Sanders is touring the state this weekend with a special guest.

Sanders and the Danish Ambassador to the United States are hosting town hall meetings in Burlington, Brattleboro, and Montpelier.

The conversations are focusing largely on what the United States can learn from Denmark's healthcare, education, and environmental protection systems.

The Ambassador says the issues are far more polarized in America's two-party system than in his country.

"Even though you have eight different parties spanning from socialist to very conservative parties, they all agree what should be the end point, which is to maintain and develop our welfare state." said Danish Ambassador Peter Taksoe-Jensen.

The ambassador says high-taxes are the norm in Denmark, but so is the high rate of GDP.

He did concede that their 17 dollar minimum wage has been complicated at times by neighboring countries lowering labor costs.

At 7:00 p.m. Saturday, the ambassador and Sanders will speak at the Brattleboro Museum.

Montpelier High School will host its meeting Sunday morning at 10:30.
