SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - The father of an African-American student formerly living in Vermont is suing the Springfield School District claiming his son was discriminated against because of his race.
Christopher Meyers is seeking unspecified compensation in a civil action complaint filed in U.S. District Court of Vermont last week.
The suit says a teacher's aide used unjustified force against the sixth-grade boy and in 2010 threatened to impale him with a yardstick and "turn (him) into a fudgesickle," leaving the boy emotionally distressed and causing the family to eventually move to another state.
Schools district officials told the Eagle Times they hadn't seen the complaint and had no comment.
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights last summer ordered the district to pay Meyers $3,000 after investigating his complaints.
