BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Liquor Control and the Burlington police department are cracking down on alcohol violations by the city's bars and restaurants.

In recent months the two departments have been conducting regular underage alcohol compliance surveys in which a person of questionable age is sent into bars or liquor stores by police where they ask to be served.

Police Lt. Shawn Burke tells the Burlington Free Press they've been "brushing the dust off of an old partnership."

In one case, Rasputin's Bar and Night Club will on Tuesday begin a 30-day suspension of its liquor license after it was found to be serving alcohol to minors and other violations.

Co-owner Matthew Rogerson says he was surprised at the severity of the action.
