After being washed out last Saturday, the Essex Invitational was held late Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours. The meet serves as a qualifier for New England Regionals.
There were plenty of great performances throughout the day. Here are just a few of the highlights:
Windsor Freshman Katey Comstock won the discus and comes in third in the shot put. Her top throw in the shot put went 35-04. Bellows Falls Senior Enny Mustapha won the shot put with a top toss of 35-09. North Country's Cassidy Webster was second.
Thetford's Ian Weider won the long jump with a top leap of 22-03.50. It broke his own DIII state record and was just a half inch off tying the meet record. He also won the 100 meter dash in 11.13, breaking the DIII record which had been held since 1998.
Colchester's Pearl Abiti won the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.72. That's a PR for her, almost 2 seconds better than her seed time. She also won the long jump with a top leap of 16-10.50.
Richford's Elle Purrier set a new state and meet record in the 800 meters, winning in a time of 2:11.54. South Burlington's Malcom Plunkett set a meet record in the 1500 meters, finishing in a time of 4:02.73.
