Despite layoff rumors at IBM, Vermont's Commerce Secretary says he'd be shocked if more than 100 people were let go.
The secretary says he's gotten no word from Big Blue about impending layoffs and says the company is strong. He says a business of that size makes employment adjustments regularly and that even up to a 100 job cut would not be out of the norm.
"If it were larger than that, I'd be surprised, but I don't know it's going to happen at all. They've given no indication that they'll be taking any action at the Essex plant," Miler said.
IBM is not required to report impending layoffs to the state. But it is required to report to the federal government if the layoff will be 500 or more.
Secretary Miller is the guest on You Can Quote Me this Sunday at 11 a.m. on Channel 3.
