CLAREMONT, N.H. -

Police in Claremont, N.H., are searching for a hit-and-run driver who sent a pedestrian to the hospital.

It happened Monday night on North Street near the intersection of Washington Avenue. Police say Hope Dustin-Carpenter, 40, of Claremont, was struck by a maroon station wagon. The driver fled the scene east on Washington Avenue.

The victim was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock with serious injuries. She is expected to survive.

"There was actually three individuals walking and one of the three was hit. So, we did have two immediate witnesses, but unfortunately they were not able to get a plate number, but got the brief description of the vehicle. Again, maroon-colored station wagon-type, possibly a Subaru," Claremont Police Chief Alex Scott said.

Police say the driver was a middle-aged white man with a goatee. Anyone with information is asked to call Claremont police at 603-542-9538.
