New tool to compare car fuel costs

Posted: Updated:

A new tool helps drivers compare the cost of fueling up electric and gasoline-powered cars. It's a website called eGallon and it was created by the U.S. Energy Department.

Visitors to the site can find out what the eGallon price is in each state based on local prices at the pump and electric rates.

In Vermont Tuesday, the website said the price per gallon of regular gasoline was $3.58. The cost of electricity to travel the same distance would be $1.44.
