It was graduation day at the Lund Family Center in South Burlington Wednesday.
The group's New Horizons Educational program graduated four young mothers, and honored 17 others. The graduates completed certificates of recognition to receive their diplomas. The program helped them complete their education while learning skills to be good mothers.
The ceremony's keynote speaker, Lisa Ventriss of the Vermont Business Roundtable, offered a few words of advice.
"I want you to think about the gifts that you have been given, the people who have invested in your life and the people who have helped you along the way, many of whom are in this room today," Ventriss said.
"It just fills me with joy to see that they're gonna have a better future and they beat the statistics set up against single mothers," said Tiffany Tanney, who graduated from the program in 2011.
Tanney now attends Champlain College and hopes to join Lund as a substance abuse counselor.
