Shelburne man wants animal abuse case dismissed

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Shelburne man charged with abusing his horses says the charges should be thrown out.

George Wilson was set to go on trial next week. He voluntarily gave up ownership of his horses earlier this year after investigators found them malnourished and surrounded by manure and carcasses.

Wilson has filed a motion to dismiss the case, claiming pretrial publicity will prevent him from getting a fair trial, that his neighbor has a relationship with State's Attorney T.J. Donovan and that the statute is vague.

Wilson used to work here at Channel 3. He left in 2006.
