S. Burlington & Rice girls repeat

To Spartans Stadium in Castleton for the girls D1 lacrosse championship. 1 vs. 2. Undefeated South Burlington taking on Middlebury for the third straight year.

The Rebels come out on fire, 4 goals in the first three minutes, seven in the first eight minutes. Junior Ashley Norris and sophomore Sarah Fisher with three goals apiece

Late in the half, Middlebury's Sophia Peluso gives her team a spark, scoring with 2.1 seconds left. But the Tigers trail 9-3 at the break.

Rebels star Anne-Marie Farmer was held scoreless, finishing her career with 199 goals, but senior co-captain Allie Flaherty and company pick up slack. South Burlington wins 14-7 and takes home the D1 title for the third year in a row.


In the early game, a battle of two surging team as No.2 Burr & Burton matched up with No.4 Rice in the girls DII lacrosse championship

A back and forth first half, four ties and five lead changes, Rice senior Katy Ranaldo with one of her four goals.

The Bulldogs bite back, senior Kathleen Montague, she also had four goals. BBA would lead 5-3 late in the first.

But Rice scores three times in the final two minutes of the half and Emily Cutting's goal with .5 seconds left gives 'the Knights a 6-5 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Green Knights take control...Gretchen Tarrant finds Cutting, the senior with five goals on the day.

Then it's Tarrant turning on the jets, a game-high six goals for the senior, what a way to end her career.

Rice pulls away late, defeating Burr & Burton 17-10 to claim a second straight DII title.
