Otter Valley's 37-year wait ends

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Beautiful night on the diamond at Centennial Field for the D2 baseball championship. No.1 Burr and Burton going toe to toe with No.2 Otter Valley.

This game really starts and ends in the third. The Otters swinging some big lumber. Already up 1-nothing when Ryan Kelley smashes an RBI double to the wall in right center to plate Chad Lonergan.

But they were far from done in the frame. Mike Winslow with two aboard. That's a laser to deep left field. Shane Quenneville and brother Jim Winslow in the score. Otter Valley up 6-0 after three.

Credit Bulldogs pitcher Noah Rizio for hanging in there, the righty strikes out an Otter with runners on to end the fourth at keep the deficit at 6.

His team though, couldn't manage a single run off of Otter Valley starter Brett Patterson. A complete-game, 1-hit masterpiece, finished off with the strikeout.

Otter Valley takes home their first D2 state championship in 37 years with the 9-nothing shutout win over Burr & Burton,
